Halfway There...

Well, May is already halfway done! Can you believe it? It's a rollercoaster of a month so far, but I wanted to give you all a quick update on where everything here stands.

Still in the middle of the moving process. We'll officially be moving to the new house on May 31st; exactly two weeks from now. There's still a lot to do between now and then! Because of this, I'm not taking any new shoots until June; I simply cannot afford the time and energy to do extensive shoots and editing this month, unfortunately.

On the other hand, I have quite a few little plans in mind for this summer! Right now, I'm completely booked up for June, but July and August are wide open. June has me doing graduation photos and a lovely Princess shoot, as well as doing a little modelling myself. I'll also be attending a little cosplay retreat some friends of mine have put together, which is going to be  a lot of fun!

July and August are, right now, pretty wide open. I'm making plans to create some specific types of studio space in my place, and I think it's going to allow for some really great shoots.

Thank you all for sticking with me through this transition. I'm excited for this next chapter, and looking forward to what it will bring!

A Few Changes...

There are some big changes coming down the line around here, and I'm really excited to share them with you!

The Giosia household is moving! Currently, my private studio and apartment are located in Renton. At the end of this month, I'll be moving to a large house in Federal Way! The house has quite a bit of space, so I'm hoping to have a more permanent setup for private shoots of all kinds. While it's farther away from Seattle, this is really great opportunity for me to expand the types of shoots I can offer.

Our new location has a very large recreational space in the basement, along with two full baths with tubs and showers of varying types. Additionally, there is a garage that I'm already plotting to turn part of into a soft box studio. Tack on a fairly private garden, a second-story deck with a lovely view of the woods, and at least one room that can be turned into a private studio at pretty much a moment's notice, and well.. It's almost any photographers wet dream, honestly.

So, due to this move, I have very limited time this month for shooting or updates, unfortunately. I have two shoots this week (both Sunday and Monday), and I will probably be sharing a lot of those photos through the month of May. I'll be back in full swing in June, so be prepared!

Find Me! (Plus, a Giveaway?)

Did you know you can find me on Instagram? That way, you can see some my latest and greatest work while you're on the go, and we can keep in touch!

I've decided that once I reach 250 followers, I'll be giving away a free two hour photoshoot to a lucky follower! We can cover A LOT of ground in two hours, so you're sure to get quite a few lovely photos back from our time together.

So, go on! Go give my Instagram a follow, and hopefully soon we'll be working together!

How I Do Boudoir

I've had some folks ask lately about boudoir shooting, and I have to admit that it's quickly becoming one of my favorite styles to shoot. Soft and elegant, hazy and dreamy...

Though, if you've ever worked with me in the past, you know that my actual style is a lot more laid back than the final results of most shoots would make you believe. Shoots with me are filled with sweets and laughter, jokes about Harry Potter, and lots of geeking about anime and video games.

To top it off, I'm pretty terrible at directing. My common direction for all of my models? "If it feels weird, don't do it!"

So, let's talk about working together! It'll be a great time, guaranteed!

Cosplay Makeup Tips From Your Photographer

Applying makeup is one of those skills that takes some time and practice to really get good at, and it can be a serious pain to get up early on the morning of a con just to put it on. Let's be real, though: While wearing makeup may or may not break your cosplay's look, it certainly has a way of bringing together your cosplay and making it feel more finished. Like wearing a wig, it can be the icing on the cake.

Below are some of my biggest makeup tips when it comes to cosplay. These are things that I've learned in the time that I've been cosplaying, and photographing cosplayers. I hope that they'll help you!

  1. Actually Wear Makeup. Even if your character doesn't appear to wear makeup in their media, wearing a tinted moisturizer with some powder over it, and mascara, will do a lot to even out your skintone and bring out your eyes.
  2. Learn To Tightline. If you're like me, and you have a eyelashes that aren't especially thick, this is a big one. Tightlining is like applying eyeliner to your lower waterline, but on the top lashes, instead. It darkens the root of your upper lashes, and makes them look thicker, which translates really well in photographs.
  3. Decide On, And Practice, Your Makeup Beforehand. Practice is the key. Try out different styles and colors before figuring out what you really want to do. It took me three years to find the right shade of eyeshadow for Rarity. You can practice that winged eyeliner look! And if you're going to go with false eyelashes, practice is a MUST.
  4. Have Fun! Cosplay is all about fun in the end, and this part of it should be no different. Trying out different looks and ideas should be a fun part of the process, not a source of frustration. Each bit helps with your progress and learning, so don't give up!

All You Need is Love...

Self-love is a difficult thing. We're constantly told to be more, or less, or better, or different than we are. However, I am here to tell you that you are perfect exactly how you are. You are enough.

It is a very tough journey to loving yourself. I can attest to this. It's taken some radical changes in my thought processes to come to accept the fact that I am exactly enough just how I am already.

If you're struggling with self-love, perhaps I can help show you just how perfect you are! You are amazing, and you deserve to feel that way! I know that with the two of us working together, we can get you there. There's no one else out there like you... How incredible is that?! So, let's talk about how we can show you some love, because you deserve it!

Crazy Con Weekend

This weekend Seattle hosted Sakuracon, the Northwest's largest anime convention! This was the convention's 20th anniversary, and it's been a lot of fun so far. Tomorrow is the last day, and I've gotten so see so many friends and meet folks I've been talking to forever. It's really been a wonderful weekend, and the shoots I've had have been fantastic.

I'm hoping to do more in the way of soft and sensual boudoir shoots in the future. My first shoot of the day was with Miss Kilgannon, shooting a boudoir version of Chii from Chobits. So, so cute and I can't wait to do more work like this!

All Natural Mood Enhancement

Sometimes, we all need a little pick-me-up. I consider myself a pretty nature-oriented person. I might be a fire sign by birth, but I'm definitely more in tune with trees and crystals. Sometimes, all it takes to reset a funk is to get out into nature and just breathe... And just be.

Early Morning Cityscapes

I went into Seattle fairly early this morning for brunch and hiking with Liz today, and snapped some photos while I wandered around downtown between connections for my buses. Seattle is such a lovely city, and it's actually quiet in the International District in the morning. I'm looking forward to being in the city again next weekend for Sakuracon
